All the men were doing the washing. The women were standing around reading magazines and what not. The men were doing it all and without complaint. One father came in, filled up washer, and went back outside after chit chatting with me. His "wife" was outside with the kids in front of the pool dipping her feet in. He was happily doing the laundry -- sweating and everything and then went outside reading a magazine. While she was across at the other end of the pool with the kids dipping her feet in and swirling her toes around in the pool. I could see. a definite. disconnection. between them but they were hiding it. Kids were oblivious. They were hopping around in the pool. He said to me, "My kids are in the pool." "Yes, mine would be too, but this is their punishment for not getting out when I asked them to. So this time, they don't get to swim." "Oh." He said, then he went outside. Then, there were two people. Unmarried. The guy came rushing in so fast that it blew the papers in the book I was looking at. He quickly pulled sheets out of the drier. His "girlfriend" came in behind him about 2 minutes later picking at her nails, fumbling with her keys. She saw some country music magazines. She lost herself in the one with Shania Twain on the cover and didn't offer to help. Just stood around and then another guy came to get his clothes. He had no shirt on -- just shorts and flip flops. They were flapping everywhere he would step. He kept looking at his watch like the bunny in "Alice in wonderland" and then rushed out. So, it was an interesting day and my oldest commented. "Oh, HE is the one that was using those washers." I quickly said, "Shhhh!!!!!!!!!!" The world looks very different today to me. It was refreshing seeing all these men working so hard but it seemed so out of balance. Rather than all the men doing all the work and all the women doing all the work, it would be beneficial for all of us to share all these "little chores" in daily life.
